Thanks all.
Ordered new plugs this afternoon.
Was out on the bike yesterday and it never missed a beat. Out again today and was as bad as ever. Even on tick over while on the side stand it was causing problems. It would be ticking over as normal then it would sound muffled and not run properly. Then all of a sudden continue to tick over properly. Quite difficult to describe really.

Hi,
If number 2 is exactly as you removed it, then its not good at all. The gap is far too small. Regap it to 0.7mm and try them again. Better still, regap them all to 0.7mm and try them again.
Thanks.

Thats what I thought. got new plugs now, do they need to be adjusted or can they slot straight in?
These questions may seem daft to some by this is the first time I have done this so bear with me!

They should be all 0.8/0.9 out of the box - however it would be wrong to assume this....take them all out of the box's and gap them one by one - put them back into the box's until they are ready to go into the engine, this will stop them getting claggy if you drop them/stand on them/the Missus stands on them when she comes out to "help" :D
Plug change was much easier on my mates bike (NC23) coz we had to take the carbs off anyway to fit the restrictors, still a fiddle tho!

Thanks, they all seem fine.
One thing I did notice is that the ''silver trumpet'' type thing on carb number 4 is loose where as all the others are tightly secured. Will this be causing a problem as it is loose?

it could be sucking air in where it shouldn't, air should only come in via air box.
but no it should not be loose.. mine arent.

Wow..you must have bought the bike with those plugs in it and have never checked them untill now?..

i have never seen an electrode do that to itself before! its a wonder that the engine was able to start up and run at all lol!..was the previous owner a school kid or a monkey perhaps? did you notice a slight hunch of the back or his arms scrapping the ground ever so slightly?
Seriously though those plugs look rooted i wouldnt re-use them, i'd say it would pay to go over that bike with a fine tooth comb just to make sure that there are no other hidden suprises..

Aido - when the bike ran fine it was awesome. I must admit though, it starts, ticks over and runs so much better now.
I discovered it has a K and N filter as well as the non standard SS exhaust system, I just wonder what else has been done to it. Dyno time I think.
Oh and regards to the K and N, the bloody thing was in up side down!!!!!
