ive had my standard one refreshed so im happy with that at the mo , just pondering over options

I was looking similarly as a CBR1000RR shock to fit. Seeing as I have one lying in the garage (Ohlins shock in the CBR so it was spare) and the problems I faced was that the shock was too long and fouled the swingarm and that it would have needed re-worked to fit and work properly. Rather than fuss about getting it to work right, I'm gonna have the stock shock re-built.

well i have a late spec shock, my plan was to have it refurbed, new spring and an RS250 remote resovoir fitted which i have, but i recon im gonna be looking at least £150, plus ill ned to buy a shitty shock to get refurbed,

so netted a S1000RR shock for £105posted, ill grab a spring and go from there i dont use the 30 all that much as i spend my life driving in a metal cage for work

and in addition im not overly heavy. im as mr honda made these bikes :D

I know where theres an HRC RC30 shock thats been setup for the NC30 :-) they don't have any rubber bump stop though

I was always under the impression if you radically change the spring you'll need the valving on the shock done too in order to get it working properly.

Be interesting to see how you get on with it.

I paid £99 for my brand new S1000RR shock - the shock is also about half the weight of the late spec nc30 shock for a start & there is also quite a bit of adjustment as well - I'll be honest & say I don't know much about the adjustment but I'll re-spring it, with a faulkner 800lb item, which costs £28+vat & then await to hear about the set up options.
As far as I know, Tony found out the standard spring is 80nm, so around 460lb.
Paul Aldridge (from here) had the 1st crack @ fitting the shock & he did it with no mods to the bike, apart from 1mm removed from the frame lug, when I do it, I'll mod the shock instead instead of the frame (if possible)

So £135 for a brand new shock, with the correct spring is cheap as chips & cheaper than a refurb on an old unit & I'm pretty sure for us lighter nc30 owners, it'll be a very worth while upgrade, with spending £350-£500.

I suppose only time will tell but I've done the cbr600rr 03-06 shock swap twice now & its not hard, its just arse ache, this swap is a piece of piss.

Then if you add say £100 to have the shim stack sorted then thats £235 for a brand new fully adjustable shock. Its the same idea as the RS250 mod yet this a new tech so should in theroy work well.

Only downfall is theres a reason some shocks inc those for the NC have a remote res rather than a piggyback, it gets damm hot under there with the exhaust close by so the damping is going to suffer, i know it looks ugly but id wrap the res in heat tape to protect it.

+1 i keep thinking that i thing it might be the cups that support the top and bottom of the spring, Maybe?

i know just the person to make them if so, but they can be had at demontweeks for £25ea if it is.

Me too. It'll not just be the shim stack that is not setup correctly, but also the valve itself. I'd imagine it'll need a full rebuild to get it to the same level as buying a NC30 specific aftermarket shock.

Well there are a few people running them now that I know of & they are getting on really well with them on the standard spring! They're more than aware it needs to be changed but they just wanted to get it on & get the bike on track.
I'll find out what mods they do & update when I know.
