Have you inspected the clutch basket?

Common cause of the issue with neutral selection is a worn clutch basket.. while the plates and friction material might be good they can wear grooves into the fingers of the basket which prevents the clutch from fully enganging and disengaging properly.

If cable and gear rod are adjusted perfectly then this has been known to be the case on closer inspection, remedies for this are to either replace the clutch basket with a new one or to fill and file the basket smooth.

I havnt inspected the cluch basket as yet sorry, work is keeping me very busy at the moment.

OK I’ve tested you theories and came up with the following (on the clutch lever) I cant adjust the screw its all the way out and still taking right at the end (finger tips)

If I adjust the screw in with just one rotation it takes all the way in the inside against the grip(around 10mm away) but then even with the clutch fully engaged, if you put the bike in first gear the bike moves forward(clutch all the way against the grip) go it is not fully disengaging.

Then providing your cable isn't super stretched (have you adjusted the locknut end by the sprocket cover? Youll take out some slack then, just to check that it isn't cable stretch.

If it doesn't help i'd inspect the clutch basket next

Hi guys

After a bit of faffing and fidling on the screws i can get neutral now by blipping the throttle just so slightly

is there a way of improving this.

I want to inspect the clutch basket next anyway is there something i need to look for that might stand out or is there a way of improving without doing a basket inpection

It's a common trait of these bikes, some might call it part of the bike's 'character'.

Revving it slowly to 3000 revs or so and selecting neutral usually does the trick.

Yes I read that on here a couple weeks back and have been trying that. Sometimes it will go in but most the time it still won't. I've been thinking of pulling out the clutch and inspecting the basket for any grooves worn in.

I had this prolem also just roll forward 2 cm and select while doing it

Now ive changed my friction plates it goes into netrul 99% of time without having to roll forward or revin
