Still no closer to finding this fault!!!

Anyone know how I can test the rectifier?

spoke to a mechanic friend of mine, and it sounds a bit complicated! need multimeter and probably best to try a find a step by step guide. though could you just put a meter into the connector and crank the bike to see if anything happens?

Buy a multimeter and check the outputs from the generator. Unplug from the rectifier and using the AC setting on the multimeter measure across 2 of the 3 outputs from the generator. Repeat this for each possible combination - e.g. wires 1+2, 2+3 and 1+3, they should all read about the same and should rise in a linear fashion when you rev the bike. 50+ V should be easily seen on each set of outputs, when revving.

If one or more sets of the outputs give a low reading, then the generator will need swapping. If they all read consistently, then you need to be looking at further down the line - wiring, connectors, reg/rec.

Thanks will give it a go over the weekend and let you know how I get on.

Not changed the generator yet as all the other tests I have done indicate it to be ok may well be that at fault just want to be able to make sure, for my own satisfaction I suppose. And knowing my luck I'll change that just to find out its the rectifier.
