You mean these screws (for anybody else reading this)
You need a right angled screwdriver - you can get cheap ones for a couple of quid for a fixed head

To the posh bevel drive ones from Morgan (they do the carbtune kits)

Though you could use a 1/4 drive ratchet with a long bit on it

Just rang pdq about a tune, he nicely worried me that sounds like compression/ valve probs!! Done 1800 miles now surely something else would have shown up?
The big thing I want to do is replace manifold rubbers please have a good search around for some.
Thanks
Mark

If it hasn't let go in 1800 miles or got worse then it's probably not compression. Having said that the 400 does need the valves checked once in a blue moon, but if they get to the point of loosing compression the bike becomes very hard to start.
A dyno tune will give you the "best average" setup but your bike doesn't sound like it's to far out especially when it's about 20years old.

nice one ec
i new the ebay link wouldn't last as long as this thread, it did the job on short notice though,
i still can't find the damn pics iv'e taken to put one up
so cheers and nice crayoning
although i still don't see the need for special tools when a screwdriver will do the job

Doing number one is a sod, the idle screw bracket and servo motor seem to get in the way. A mirror like yours sounds ideal and I am going to use one of those very thin screwdrivers that you use for watches on them. I have some more work to do that I will have to take the carbs off until next week but maybe I haven,t got the right screwdriver?
Regards
Mark

You could detach the servo motor and idle adjustment, balance the carbs and then put them back.

just havin a ponder on this
i forgot your bike is supposed to be impossible 1WG in a 3TJ
your angel of attack will be different, as your 1WG engine is higher in the frame than the TJ engine
that's probably why your having trouble locating the screws
post some pics and well have a look cos it isn't normally that difficult to locate em+
