Hi there, I'm thinking about my rear shock.. It looks standard but has a ohlins sticker on the chamber under the seat.. -_- what are the specs for the shock so that I can have a look thank you

I'm digging the Penske race shock on mine. Works great and made in the USA

I asked about it a while ago and they responded right back. I think it was around $650USD depending on which shock you get.

I think Ohlins are seriously over-rated. Their popularity drives the price and reputation up.

No to say they are not a good shock and the parts are good but there are many other shocks that are made as equally good if not a lot better.

Nitron are good UK shocks. New from Nitron there about 300 quid for a basic upto 600 quid to the top spec, they'll build them to your weight and for the NC30 fitment.

There are many brands of shock to look at. A few of the tried and tested ones for the NC30 that might fetch less money would be

White Power and Quantum.

I run an RC30 HRC shock with linkgages on my bike. Was rebuilt recently and hadn't done many miles since. Was previously run by a guy racing in a 400 class and he loved it.

Build quality of the shock is second to none being an HRC part built in the bubble era. Fully adjustable and a lot less than an Ohlins would have cost.

If an ohlins was available dirty cheap and not scrap then i'd of course get it but there are many good shock options avaialble.

I'd disagree with that. Maybe it's down to what is available in NZ, but what really separates it for me is the support that we get from the Ohlins dealer (which is a lot trackside!) Shock was built to requirements and includes spring swaps if required. Also the quality is also easily comparable to any other aftermarket shock I have seen.

I hadn't considered overseas people! Support is always good. Ohlins do have a big network! Nitron are a UK company, not sure if they have much in NZ.

White power for example are Japanese, there are many aftermarket suspension tuners and rebuilders though who should be able to set things up.

Go with whatever works for you but my initial post was more about the quality and performance of the shocks. I said there good, but there not lightyears better than everything else :)



The engineering on Nitron shocks is fantatisc AND the rebuild cost is very cheap in comparission.

Do they still call themselves White Power!? They have removed all traces of that from their website (understandably!)

Fair comment! My main point was more that buying a shock off the shelf and sticking it in doesn't make it better or worse than any other brand of shock - the important bit is the setup. In my circumstances, I could have bought a Nitron full race shock landed in NZ for less money than the Ohlins, but without the support and backup, it doesn't make it (for me) as good of a product. That's no reflection on the Brand itself or the quality of the components. I'd be just as keen on WP or Penske etc. brands if the suspension tuning shop I use supplied/supported those products instead!
