think i may have been lucky, split the casings, good amounts of oil on crank and everywhere esle tbh, only thing i can think of that would cause the noise is the thrust washers, seem to have wear marks on them now.

also wondered about how to set up the gears, ie the selectors, not sure if i fitted them the right way round 1st time.
also does the bit that fits on end of the gear select cylinder [bit with spring on] go into the little circular segment on the notches oe on the long rectangular slots ??

Hi Mark,
Im assuming you've no manual to work from so i'd advise you download the parts list off the front of this site, it will at least allow you to see all the parts broken down and in order. One of the pieces you posted a picture of (small part i was unsure of) deffo fits on the end of the gear selector drum. The drum can be built up wrong and still fitted, if you build it wrong you have to split it right down again as it dont come out with the cases together. You may be putting something in slightly wrong and causing the noise, once you put the cases back together torque it up and then check everything turns and the gears (all) change.

ok finally got it to find all the gears, albeit with some difficulty, due to doing it by hand, but it shifts up 6 and back again.
reason for problems earleir, had the slecters wrong way round [numpty]
so now hopefully i can now put her back together and this time she'll be ok
