Nearly all honda reg/recs are crap, a yamaha R6 (pre-2006) unit is the way to go.

Beware of reg/recs from the bay, not all are created equal!

yeah i saw something about that when i was looking but apparently you have to modify them to work with a nc35? is it something i could feasably do without electrical know-how?

Easy as mate.

You just chop the plug off the honda loom and crimp some standard spade connectors on. File some metal off the bike's subframe and hold the regulator on with 1 bolt. There's plenty of info on R6 regs if you try a search.

One like this is a superior unit to any honda reg and the cheap ebay copies:

TBH that's probably not a bad unit.

Looks very similar to honda later model shunt type regs. There are better, cheaper solutions though (e.g. the yamaha reg ^).

If you replace yours with a honda type reg, make sure that your plug isn't burnt (check wires also) or it will cause more problems down the track.

ive just put a few more pics of the wiring, it looks burnt to me

There should be a white plug that those spade plugs are inserted into which fits the reg/rect - looks like you're missing it so it has obviously been screwed up at some point!

The wires don't look too flash, pretty typical of a burnt out reg. Best to cut them off and not reuse them.

I had a tourmax unit on my cb-1 years ago. Well made and gave me no hassle.

Worthwhile to run a seond earth or better earth too, these little hondas use silly earthing routes half way round the bike through thin cable, go direct with thicker gauge stuff.

I'm going to try and track down a good condition 5pin R6 REG/REC and install that, and since my wires are
abit fooked im going to cut them back and repair with this kit here:

It'll be a few weeks as im low on dosh at the moment. Just bought a float charger for my battery too.
And a Haynes manual. Ill report back in three weeks or so and let you all know how i went.
