Do you mean it flows the most air, or it filters the air best?

Will a hiflo filter be okay? Remember I'm not going for outrageous power, I'm just riding on the road and want fuel efficiency..

I'll be gaining a fair bit of power down low in a couple months when I change the gearing anyways ;)

Messing around with non-standard air filters can quickly cause fuelling issues. Change it at your own risk.

Standard is best like the man said! ;)

:plus: Theres a reason why we all run standard filter (or K&N if we can source one) and thats because it works, either that or no filter at all and race spec carbs but seeing as you want fuel economy then thats a no brainer really.
Also for whats its worth id do all the mods to the carbs, HRC springs,1mm washer and upjet. Ive had a bog standard RVF and i found the fueling terrible, the above mods sorted it out no end and i only noticed a drop in MPG when i dropped a tooth on the front sprocket. In my book a well setup set of carbs will return more MPG than a set setup to please the emission police.
Ok if you tested 2 bikes back to back, one standard and one with modded carbs and held them flat out the modded one would most likely use more fuel but on the street in the real world i cant see that you'd notice any difference at all.

DONT! Touch that air filter!

Unless it's black then replace it with a new Honda filter. :-)

Changing filters / airbox mods buggars up the air flow and air speed and causes all kinds of fuelling problems on these bikes.

don't touch air filter - roger that!

I've been talking to my mechanic and he's said stay with standard jets, and don't even bother trying to stuff around with the carbs on these bikes..

But I still definitely want to clean the carbs and give the air filter a clean, as well as check all the pipes between the tank and carbs and engine, and replace the air filter if it's in really really bad condition.. Should I still raise the jet size to stop the bike running lean? 112's all round?

Where should I get the screws for the carby from? Can I just take the carby off, and if they are buggered, then go to a fastener shop and buy however many screws I need, the same size and thread? The screws aren't anything special, are they?

Is there anything else I should bother doing while the carbs and filter are out? (I don't have much spare time at the moment.. in about 8-10 weeks I'll have plenty of time on my hands and I'll be giving the bike loads of TLC)

Actually, another question.. My black rims are slightly dirty. I assume they just haven't had a decent clean because when I wet them and rub them with a rag it cleans them well.. But how would I go about giving it a proper clean without taking the wheels off? Could I just spray degreaser on it and then wash it off with soapy water? (Soapy water by itself didn't do all that much...)

Cheers :)

Is there any chance someone could give their opinions on these questions, as I'll be getting my exhaust next week and want to get all the stuff I need sorted..

Cheers :D

Can't help on the carbs much as I don't have any personal experience, but if the guys on here say get 112's I'd get them, they know their stuff :peace: Also the carb tuning at the top of this forum seems to be a well used, proven and worthwhile mod.

As for the wheels, try either AutoGlym clean wheels, or GUNK Ultra. Both are in squirty bottles (not aerosols) and have brought my NC23's white wheels from black, back to perfectly white, with next to no effort on my part. wet the wheels, spray the stuff on, leave to soak in for 2 or 3 minutes and wipe off, easy as that
