I think now its running right and all fixed up its time to sell it on really.
Whats an 1987 NC24 with fairly poor fairings worth ?

Just fitted some Denso plugs, seem decent enough quality, possibly better than NGK.
Any opinions on them ?
U27FER9 plugs.

£500.00 ish
I used to have a set of Denso plugs in mine. I didn't really notice any difference between NGK and ND.
They should be U24FE9 (ie NON Resistor plugs) but I dn't know how much difference it would make

David silver spares send out a resistor type plug and this is the #9 heat range denso equivalent. I fitted one yesterday to see if it was a good fit and it fired up straight away, seems like they are fine.
I cant see why you would want non-resistor plugs tbh.

It has resistor plug caps. Using a resistor plug as well and you'll get a weaker spark. It'll still spark though, most NC24's are fitted with either
CR8EH9's or U24FER9's as there cheaper / easier to get hold of than the original CxEH9 / U2yFE9's (x = 7/8/9. y = 2 / 4 / 7 respectivly)
David silvers don't send out a resistor plug as there where I get mine from!

--> VFR400 NC24 (JAPANESE)Spark Plug (NGK C8EH9)£6.00
--> C8EH9 (notice the No R) but there £6.00 + VAT each!

David silver list the resistor plug in the service pack.
http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/VFR4 ... art_22781/
The leads i have are stock leads, unless the rubber cap has a resistor or air gap in it they have no resistor afaik ?
The resistor in the plug is only an air gap anyway.
The U24FER9 has a resistor in it, its the R in the code iirc. The U24FE9 has no resistor, i did a fair bit of digging ?
500 quid is far less than i think its worth. A lot less than i am in to it for anyway. lmao

Ah yes, they use 'aftermarket parts' as it says in the service kit.
Yes. the U24FER9 has a resistor in it, the U24FE9 (reccomended ND plug) has no resistor.
You can pick up a half decent NC30 for £850.00 (as rick has on here) which kind of kills the price of the less desirable NC24
the scan of the Haynes Manual.. it gives the resistance of the plug leads WITH the plug cap, which has the resistor in it.
As I said before you can run resistor plugs and resistor leads you just get a slightly weaker spark, ignore the carbuettor jet sizes on that too as there for the NC21.. the NC24 should have 115's all around (another mistake by the haynes book of lies) but it's the only thing I have around here thats in english.
I managed to pick up aMINT NC24 with 14000kms on the clock (8700 miles) fresh import for £700.00, after registration and tidy up it only owes me £800.00 and it's by far the one of the cleanest, unmolsetered NC24s i've seen in this country, came with new tyres and chain and sprockets too!
Which kinda pissed me off as my other decent one one owes me £1250 in bits done to it and it's not half as nice, which is why I kinda gave up on it.
Hope to take that one to the next dyno day.. along with the ZXR
They can be a real money pit and i'd be lucky to get 5 - 600 for it if I sold it, less desierable and some cheap NC30's sway most buyers away i'm afraid.
Good for buyers though as you can get a potentially fun bike and real bargin.. or you can get a money pit! (reg/rec / tyres / chain * sprokets / forks / collectorbox) soon adds up! As you may no doubt be aware.
Theres still plenty about though so if your really after one worth holding out for a decent one and pass on the scrappers.. bottomless pit (which is why theres so many bits on ebay.. worth more as parts!)

I see most NC30's go for around a grand and a half, am i fuck like selling for 500 notes. You cant even buy a learner 125 for that. lmao
They are cheap because they are all old and fucked ! Mines old and not fucked. Just needs a new LHS belly pan and some touch-up paint and its sorted.
I'm in a rush to sell, as always seems to be the case, but i'm not going to lose money. It can just sit in the garage until its sold.
Worst comes to worst i'll insure and ride it myself. Want my car on the road though. bah.
If i had the money and was bothered enough i could get a chinky fairing imported for £300, would have it looking like new. Its not worth it to me though in my position.

Learner 125's are in demand though and are much more wanted. Lots of learners, more people can ride them.
Old 400's are less in demand, the most popular being the ZXR and NC30, both of which can easily fetch upwards of £1000 on a good day, but you can still get some sub £1000 bargains. My ZXR cost £550.00 as it was rough, £250.00 later and it gets lots of comments on how it looks :-)
You only have to ask Christoph on here, he brought his NC24, sorted most of it out and it had really tidy bodywork and he only got about £600 for it, it owed him a lot lot more!
I think Mark (CMSMJ1) recently brought a half decent 24 for not too much.
Decent nick! £500 no bids
£500.00 new collectorbox and braided hoses, same owner for 12 years no bids
buy it now £595, needs some bits
£1300 garage, not likely
Since it's bike season you might get a bit more from somebody desperate to get a bike.
£500 / £600 is reasonable for a decent NC24. £300 - £450 for a knackered one. There just not as collectible as the NC30 / NC35 so you'll have a hard time trying to sell it.
Hence advising the new guy (forgot his name) not to plow a load of cash into his new NC24 until he decides to keep it for a long time otherwise it's just wasting money you'll never get back.

I got my NC24 for swapsies on an NC30 race system...
I have sold it to a friend, running lovely, MOT'd etc.....for £250
£500 is absolutely top bucks for the bieks IMO.
If you had one clean enough to eat off and it had 12 months tax, MOT and new tryes, chain and pads etc etc...then I would still baulk at paying £650-700 for it.
