Maybe use new cam holder bolts when you put it back together, the others ones will be elongated and weakened

Camshafts do snap but its a 1 in a million chance and should only happen in old age.

Just unlucky i guess.

I bought an NC30 a while back and upon checking the engine I found the reason it sounded like a tractor was it had a snapped camshaft and knackered main bearings.... Poor old moto..

Okay got the new head on but encountered a new problem. I took the valve clearances but for cylinder 3 exhaust I can not get the feller gauge in between the rocker arm and shim. Is there a reason for this as all other valves were spot on. Its just funny when you take the clearances all the other rocker arms are not fully compressed but number 3 exhaust is. Hope someone can help me out with this cheers.

You have turned the motor etc to the right place to take these measurements?

Is it both exhaust valves?

NC24 doesn't have shims?

Nope. Valve clearance adjustment is done via a screw and locknut on the rocker arm, the cam lobe pushes the rocker arm onto the top of the valve.

Its cool I got it. Haynes manuel is wrong for the nc24. The piston was not at TDC so just did it with good old fashioned eye sight. Got them all in spec. Will fire her up tomorrow so fingers crossed. Cheers.

You did your valve clearances with a feeler gauge or by eye ?
