Thats a starter solenoid which is probably making a funny noise as your battery is dead.

Thanks for the help - much appreciated - but yes I think I better get hold of a Haynes manual going forward.skinnydog0_0 wrote:set multi meter to 0-20v dc connect+ probe to red/white and - probe to green turn on ignition on, and you should get full battery voltage.
next
switch off ignition, set meter to ohms check for continuity between green and earth.
next
check resistance between any 2 yellow terminals should get between 0.1 and 1 ohms
if you don't get the results above you will need to check wiring between battery and rectifier.
if the wiring is ok, probably a faulty rectifier.
If you plan to do any work on the bike yourself, it would be well worth getting a haynes manual there is more info in there about the resistance reading you should get testing all the connections on the rectifier.
hope this helps
P.S. i am not an electrical expert, and i am sure there people on here with far more knowledge about this that could give more/better advice.
At least we have a long weekend coming up so should be able to find some time to get this sorted.
Thanks - got the mail and again, much appreciated - think the info will definately come in handy!NGneer wrote:Dannyw35 - you got mail!

Re: Little bit of help with dead NC30 please
Just a quick update.
Tried the battery from my other bike and the NC30 started up just fine - good times.
Now just need to get a new battery and then go about checking the reg/rectifier to see if it was that killed it...
Thanks for the help.
