Yes his guide was a big help and the parts were dead easy to get hold of - except for the pushrod, I couldn't find one anywhere. Rick Oliver was going to modify one off another bike but Neo had a spare. The master cylinder is from a VFR750.

Yep.. first thing I noticed was the VFR master cylinder on the clutch, I fitted a grey integrated brake one (off the same bike) to match on one of mine

I think it pushes the same amount of fluid as an NC21 one, but if you do have problems let me know and i'll send an NC21 unit (complete with lever your way too )

As for the collector... hmmmmm they can be a bit of a pain in the arse to fit.. I find putting it on loose really helps to get the front downpipes in.. but you've bolted the back in now so that might be a bit of a problem.. mind you the front down pipes are a bit of a nightmare at the best of times.

However, one thing i've noticed.. you have fixed brake-discs.. ie NC21 / VFR750 style?

The NC24 originaly had 'floating' discs.

Theres a pair on ebay for sub <£40.00

The only real advantage the floating type (well technically there 'semi-floating') offer is the way they deal with heat.. if your nailing the brakes they disc can expand on the joints without warping... which is why there used on practically all modern sports bikes.

But tbh I doubt you'll have problems with the ones you've got on.. just thought i'd point it out :-)

Have you done the R6 reg/rec mod? It'd be the best thing you can do for circa £30 before you put it back together? If you havn't I can get you some really good pics of the best place to put it / how it looks on a 24 etc :-)

I think you will find that the early 750's (RC24s) had fixed discs, but the later ones, certainly RC36a's, if not all RC36s, had floaters

Well I got it last July after seeing it advertised in a local shop window and my original intention was just to clean it up a bit. Although I knew the collector box was shot I didn't know that you had to remove the engine to replace it. I just got carried away when I took the engine out and it developed into a full blown project like these things often do... So I've been working on it on and off since then.

No I haven't but it sounds a worthwhile mod so yes any details and pics would be really great and I'll get on with it, thanks. BTW its in the Lucky Strike endurance paint scheme.

Well the standard REG/REG is in a pretty bad place, above the engine.. this was rectified in the later model VFR's by mounting it to the side of the subframe.

I do this mod to my bikes too.. It requires the following:

2003-2005 R6 Reg/Rec
Some Sheet Steel

Basically you cut the sheet steel, i think i used 3mm, into a triangle and weld it to the left side of the subframe.. this acts as a Heatsing for the reg/rec.. I then hammererd the middle of the steel to a raised platform to fit into the recess of the reg/rec (you'll see the recess when you get the reg/rec)

Apply a layer of silicone heatsink compound to the steel and bolt the reg/rec in place.

There are two green and two red wired to the old reg/rec.. these need to be soldered together.

The 3 yellow wires I take directly from the Genny and fit standard spades to all the wires.. they MUST be soldered on not crimped.

The R6 Reg Rec is pretty bulletproof, adding a mounting plate ensures better heat-dissipation.. plus its in a cooler place.

The standard honda units and aftermarket replacements are pretty fragile and its always in the back of your mind if there going to fail.

The final product looks like so...



I covered the wires in dielectric grease and then hotmelt gluegunned over them to prevent water / dirt ingress.

Still got quite a few niggling little things to tidy up but I couldn't resist a dress rehearsal.



I haven't been able to find any side panel securing pins and I may have to turn a couple in aluminium but I would prefer to use the original plastic ones. Does anyone know where I could get some from or whether pins from other models will fit.
