If you can, mount the engine on an elevated board lined up and winch the bike up over it. Then just lower the bike over the engine and line it up as you go.

Maybe not helpful to you but that's how I change out engines on my own without having to use precarious jacking or levering arrangements.

yeah but there's no winch point in the garage ... there's no light either.

I need to line the sprokets up so I can see the chain run and place the chain guides. Then the swingarm needs to be drilled and rivinuts put in. So the engine is good enough for that atm.

I'll take it out again then remove the front wheel and forks so I can build the frame over the engine. I think that's the easier way out (or in ???) and I can buff the fork tubes too.

FZR's are easier that this cos you can get a screwdriver into the mount holes then lever the engine. The top rear mount on the Bim is two sections and the lower one also has the side stand on it.

I've seen people get a piece of "I" beam and build 2 brick pillars or use 2 heavy brackets to support the beam.

In the past, I've used the roof beam and looped some rope around the beam and wheterver I'm lifting. Then I woudl use a bar and twist the rope to lift and jam the bar against something to lock it off. Crude but did the job.

I put a winch point in my garage a couple of years ago and use it very very often now to do shock changes, forks, etc.

I have a motox stand, you know the ones that look a stool. I sit the engine on that then lift the chassis over and onto the engine. Dead easy with one person, even easier if you take the forks off.

They have a foot lever so you can lift it or lower it, got mine for £25 and it has been a godsend.
