Time for an update:

Block connector closest to the stator has been junked and replaced with 15 amp spades and per wire wrappings of electrical tape (if I could only have found my heat shrink).

This seems to have made very little difference as the battery last time I checked showed the same amount of charge - looks like I shall be popping my removing the flywheel cherry sooner than I had ever intended.

So odds are my stator is BBQ'd in the section that really got melted. There is an R6 reg/rec sat on my desk so that can go with the pile of bits thats need to be fitted.

However without load from the lights this shouldnt stop the bike from going above 5k should it?

I had the pilot screws set to 2 1/8th of a turn and have reverted to the recommended setting of 2 1/4 turns. Just trying to nail where the problem lies. March doesnt feel that far away...

Update - this adjustment seems to allow the bike to idle without me revving every couple of seconds to stop it cutting out. Will confirm in the morning. I think the neighbours dont like me testing at 9 at night :D

My other theory lies in the there being crap in the pilot circuit (its the tube that isnt threaded, doesnt have a jet in it) - the spare carbs I got had been kept outside. Some of the jets and emulsion tubes had gone a bit green!

Will report back again tomoz - and get some batteries for my multimeter - it couldnt hack it in the cold garage
