It's to do with the angle of the chain. Might only be a few mm, but apparently it makes a difference.

rode 14/43 for about 90miles and the accelleration was brilliant but high revs on open roads made me swap to 15/43.

never tried 14/40 but i have a 14 and a 42 and 43 so i have a few options

Banoffee, Viper is right, the step should be facing the wheel. Looks like a Rentha HA sprocket like I have and the writing should always face out. Again Viper is correct and it may throw your chain alignment out slightly

VR6will - I always get my sprockets from B&C Express in Lincoln - always use Renthals personally. They are good value and very helpfull

15F 38R, 525 pitch.

Give them a call and they'll tell you the correct number of chain links for the sprockets/bike you'll use.
A 520 pitch chain&sprox (lighter) is a good mod too!

Been using the search - the 14t appears to be a popular conversion, as does the 520 pitch conversion, and while I'm there changing the chain I might aswell do it.

Ive got a +2 on the back as well and its a bit too much if you want decent motorway cruising. I came back from a bike rally in france in 6th at over 13,000 revs for most of the time, just trying to stay with my mates. i felt very guilty about thrashing the engine that much for so long. That was on a NC23 though, not sure if the viffer engine would handle that sort of abuse.

whats the difference in changing just front sprocket compared to just the rear?

I.e. why would you leave the front standard and go up a tooth or two on the back? Or is that not the done thing?
