It is actually fairly straight forward, I have a couple of sets that I've modified I will take some pics and do a little write up tomorrow for you

Are removing QUEITENING GEAR significantly reduce cam life ?

Its really straight forward before you start you need to grind a small flat section in the cam so you can remove the gears
you start but grinding off the head of the rivets holding the retaining plate and backlash gears on, Lever off the plate and you can now remove all the gears and springs
you can press the rivets out the cam body I used a socket and an old chain pin to press them out in the vice, Conveniently your now left with the exact size hole you need to tap a thread so no drilling (I cant remember the exact size so you need to measure the rivet that comes out)
next you need to grind/file down the stubs so they are just slightly lower than the drive gear your going to re-fit,
Now put the drive gear back on with the spring cutout slots over the stubs and you now have adjustability, If you have access to a lathe you can knock up some adapters or get them off Revs27
Bolt them together and away you go !
if you need to know anything else just give me a shout.
Incase anyones wondering what the benefits of dialing in your cams are ok there Kent cams but it shows that properly timed cams = more power

Are removing QUEITENING GEAR significantly reduce cam life ?
To be honest I have never experienced any excessive cam or head wear although I have heard some people experience ovaling head journals.

hmmm would alloy do for those plates? Or does it need to be something heavier?

After knackering my M5 tap trying to tap the damn holes in the cam shaft, i've settled on M4 stainless bolts through the existing holes to clamp the plates and cam sprocket, fixed with thread lock and a split washer.
Anyone have any opinions?

Is this on your race engine build Greg? Sound like it will be one mean mother F! Meant to catch up and say g'day at the last broady interclub round, but had to drop some parts off to a dude and bolt.
Need more info in your build thread!

Its coming mate, it will all happen in a rush as it has to be done by the end of January! Right now I'm accumulating bearings, shells, gaskets etc. Frame is currently sitting in degreaser...
