also how come the main jets are bigger in the front than the rear, wouldnt it make sense them be the same all round??

The original washers are about 0.5mm thick.

The rear carbs are jetted bigger (richer) as they receive less cooling. Many inline moto engines also have a similar arrangement where the middle two cylinders are jetted richer.
