Re: Is my Reg/rec dead?
if you need an alternator (I did, it turned out to be badly burnt out), Rick Oliver does them at a reasonable price.

Re: Is my Reg/rec dead?
to test the output of the alternator is very simple.you unplug the connector by the right hand side,where you knee is,its the connector with the three yellow wires.you test the connector going to the alternator.with the bike running and the multimeter set ac volts 100range or 200 rnge.depending on what option it gives you.it may even be a autorange multimeter.anyway,with the bike running at 5000rpm put one probe onto a yellow wire and the other probe to another yellow wire.do this until you have taken three readings.they should all be the same or roughly the same and 45-50volts.
you can also tesy for resistance etc but i did this test and it showed up ok but then the volt test showed that it was fooked.

Wulls Electrical test is spot on..
It's Unloaded though.. Electrexworld have a fantastic diagnostics sheet that runs you through checking every aspect of the charging system :)
They also show you how to use a headlamp bulb to draw 4amps through the altenator to test it under load (tests the insualtion)
http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/pdfs/Tro ... G-&-RR.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Run through all of those above to help diagnose your bike.
The only difference being where it says Black wire on the Reg / Rec you want to use the GReen one :)

Re: Is my Reg/rec dead?
I checked the alternaor out and it seems ok. A friend gave me a honda reg-rec to fit, i think it was off a CB750 or something so i bolted and soldered it up and seems fine now. I downloaded that link above, i'll keep it safe in case any more silliness goes on!
Cheers guys.
