I guess it may well just be knackered diaphragms not lifting the plunger out of the way.

Whats the score with NC24 needle-plunger-diaphragm assemblies?
I think that's the best idea, take a look for yourself.

The nc24 'rounded' slides are similar (the same?) to nc30 hrc items. I have some in my racebike, yippee! Not much use for a roadbike, they'll just mess with the fuelling!

J51B stamped needles should be in the front carbs, J51A needles in the rear carbs. It might also be worth taking off the airbox and air filter and seeing if the carb slides all rise together when you rev it, but nc30's don't much like to run with these parts removed, and a chance you could flood it. It would easily eliminate dodgy diaphragm sealing/holes etc though if it can be coaxed into running.

These are nc24 slides (round bottom), the standard nc30 ones have a flat bottom:

I did as was suggested, took a look with my mechanic friend Bryn. He used to race these things so he knows them rather well indeed.

I'm happy to report it was a poorly fitted rubber on the rear right carb. We inspected it and returned to its proper seating and the thing goes mad like it used to! I might put it back on the dyno and see what it pulls now.

It has the stock NC30 sliders in and not the NC24 items. Just glad to know the difference!

All mended, Matts a happy boy!

Thanks to all who took the time to take an interest in this post. Matt

I took it for a speed test and managed to push 135 out of it, it was nearly in the red in top, about 13500 rpm or so. It seems much happier.

I'm most pleased with my purchase. As i'm sure you appreciate, its quite a different world compared to my good old FJ!

Thanks to all and the next time it does something silly, i'll be sure to let you all know. Thanks again, Matt
