I use catrol 10/40 racing fully synth cos it the best oil halfords sell and I get it dirt cheep
I agree my bike went alot better after the oil and filter change, especially finding neutral when hot, usually takes a couple of attempts and a bit of rev;'s but for a month after the change it was like a normal bike lol

as a matter of interest has anyone got any opinions on how you can quantify the quality of oil?

For me it depends how much I value my bikes; the Bandit gets the cheaper stuff I can get, whilst the RVF gets the more expensive oil like Castrol; I stick to semi-synthetic 10w40 though!

It's all the same
Well its not but I wouldn't bother with anything other than cheap semi-synth in my VFR, it far exceeds the specs of the 80's oil

Price??

(thats what they want us to believe!)
I really don't think quality is too important, frequent oil changes are most important.
I know of peopl that swear by using car oil in their bikes for what its worth.
I never use full synthetic in the nc's, too much risk of the clutch playing up.
