NC29 Year of manufacture?

Post by Clivoris »

Hello all.
I am currently racing my NC29 in a couple of club races here in New Zealand. I am attempting to see if it meets the criteria to race in our Pre89 post classic class. What I need is any information or evidence that shows that the 1990 NC29 was manufactured and available for purchase (in any market) during 1989. I don't fancy my chances but if anyone has any information it would be a great help. I have a mate who remembers some famous racer riding it at some big bike show during 89, so he's convinced it's eligible.

You'll only be able to get that with the build date, only Honda will be able to supply that.

Some would probably have been built in '89, but will be plated as '90 model bikes by the factory.

and i always thought "Manufactured date" meant just that.. the year/date it was built....
again its 1990 earliest.
registrations never quite show the true age of bikes like ours, esp if they have sat in a show room for a few years then put on the road.

2009 plated cars/bikes will be getting built in just a few months. They won't be put on sale until 2009.

:) Cheers for that chaps. It's a very technical point and I know that I am pushing the limits of eligibility for this class. I haven't found a way to get in touch with Honda Japan to clarify this. All suggestions re how to do this will be followed through on.
Basically, I know that the NC29 is officially a new for 1990 model, originally (or only sold new) sold in Japan. I also know that sometimes new models are manufactured during the calender year prior to release, and are also sometimes available for purchase before the official release year. If I was able to establish this I can enter the pre89 class with a clear conscience.

first is there a "local" dealer on the kapiti coast there bro, or quick trip to the 04 necessary. i know the 89=nc23 90=29, and here in uk telling the year of bike/car is simple due to the plates, no such luck in nz they just started at "a1" and moved onwards regardless of timescale, plates have noght to do with bikes age. but as above take a ride down the stunning coast (when the surfs low so no need to rush) and get the frame number verified.

Good advice from yourself and Leopard P. After lowsiding my bike on the weekend :( I will be spending a we bit of time at the Honda shop over the next week or so anyway.
Just to clarify, the issue isn't so much about the manufacture year of my specific bike. It relates to whether they were available for purchase during 1989 in Japan. If they were, I can race mine legitimately in our pre89 class. Honda Japan would be able to tell me this relatively easily if I can only chat to the right person via the interweb. I posted here in case somebody had the knowledge required, thereby saving me the effort.
