Could be just wear in the carbs but lowering the throttle tickover and lifting it back up with a little more on the pilot screws could help. theres a link to a book ive got that just happens to show the carb section, could be of help to ya.

Hey,
The pipes have finally turned up at last so i`ve set to and fitted them only to find that the link pipe supplied dont fit.....

The outside diameter is 54 mm,has anybody got one for sale or tips where to get one would be handy.I`m going to run twin pipes again eventually but for the time being just the one

54mm is an odd size! 99% of pipe work is o/d sized and so 2"/50.8mm. Can you not get the welder guy you know to roll some sheet to make an adapter and weld it to your link pipe, if your anywhere near stoke i could make one no problem as ive tig/mig welders.

Hey,

While i was happy with the running etc i thought i would do some of the smaller job`s on the list such as a small oil leak on the output shaft so a new seal was duly ordered and a new clutch pushrod seal also(silly not to considering the price,peanuts!) .These were fitted at a mate`s workshop i`ve tired of rolling around on the floor!

Mmmmm,just the usual checks etc while the tank was of again and we found a distinct lack of coolant(cue worrying to start),topping up and running the bike down the road and back produced the same low level and i`d noticed a drop in performance,the best i can describe it is like the bike was pulling through treacle or suchlike(sorry for the description)almost lazy but still quite torquey.....

One compression test later and my fears were confirmed:
1,150psi

2,65psi

3, 65psi

4,150psi

The next question on my mind now was head or barrels...? :(

A leak-down test revealed 1 to be ok(100 psi) 2,17 psi/3 12psi/4,100psi.
It looks like the head gasket or a crack in the head itself the really bizarre thing is when pressure was applied to no2 pressure leaked from no3 and vice versa i`m banking on the head gasket :pray: .
While its in bit`s again i plan to have the barrels skimmed and the cam wheels slotted so when it go`s back together i will have the squish i want and the timing dialed in right for a change.......of course this all depends on the barrels being good/serviceable and the way my luck is going at the moment you`ll forgive me if i dont hold my breath!!!!! :|
Anyway less of the bitching and i would seriously appreciate any pointers from the more knowlegable guys on here,thank`s

variablevalves is on with one at the mo so think he might be the man to ask about the timing, will have a look how much postage is and get back to you mate.

Worse than i ever imagined but i`ve got to be honest i`m not surprised really....bores are in a shocking state(hope the barrels are good Anthony!)the valves are barely seating and i`m amazed how much performance i actually got from the money pit.

Not entirely sure which way to go forward at the moment,the rebuild will be astronomical cost wise unless i can locate a good second hand head/barrel`s etc. All the valves are fooked to be honest and the seats are in need of recutting to make sevicable again and i`m not a great advocate of this process(sinks the valve in further).The ports have that much shit in them dipping would be the only way to clean them,the alternative being hour`s with the dremel(no thank`s)....thoroughly pissed off at the moment!

Any ideas/second hand parts/tip`s etc greatly appreciated

i think i have a head with valves in it too mate but no cams will get on it tomorrow and let you know just had a bit of a mad one to day (pregnant wife, screaming toddler and a job list as long as my arm) will e-mail you the info and some pics.
