never ending GK71F problems..
okay, im starting a new topic due to the last one getting a bit vague.
the bikes been off the road for a few weeks now, due to the charging system playing up causing the battery to boil..
now the bike wont start. i just got new plugs today, no luck, so i checked the coils, and it seems that the left hand coil is dead, cylinders 2 & 3 are getting no spark. 1 & 4 are getting a nice big blue spark. Is there more to the problem or is it that simple, do i just need a new coil?
also, WHERE can i find a coil for this bike ? Ive had a look on eBay, the interweb, and i cant seem to find anything anywhere.
any help would be nice, thanks !

Re: never ending GK71F problems..
hmmm, the only thing i can think that would be a problem is what these motors rev upto.
i know that myne has a redline of 12.5 k, all the newer gsxrs revved even higher...
if you said you managed to get blade ones working on your gsxr then im sure bandit ones wont be a problem as they share identical motors????
(i love having an old rare bike)

hi Max,
Bandit coils are 3ohm as are most early Suzi's so should work. If one coil is supplying a spark you can swop them over and see if its still the same one firing, also you can test your bike if you got an ohm meter. The test should be caried out on the primary windings of the coil (the ones you connect the wires to) by setting the meter to x1 ohm range and when you put the probes on to the terminals you should have between 2.5 and 3.8 ohms. Then set the tester to x1K ohm and test the secondary windings (the ends that got to the plugs) you should get between 30K and 50K ohms. Compare the readings from each coil and if you get no reading then the coil is deffo scrap. If when swopping them over only the same side fires then you can test the supply from the loom, there is probably black or black with tracer wires and orange, anyway the non black ones should carry 12V to the coils when the ignition is switched on, so this can easily be tested between the terminal at the coil and the negative terminal of the battery.

Re: never ending GK71F problems..
okay ive just checked, it seems that the right coil is indeed dead - i tryed it on the left hand coil low tension wires, got nothing, so i then tryed the left hand coil on the right hand side low tension wires and got a spark.
so ive just bought a coil for a 400 bandit off ebay, 20 quid, i will be reporting back here to see if it works or not as there seems to be alot more spares for bandit 400's going around than gk71f spares..

D'oh! you need to check the good coil with an ohm meter to get the rating, the bandit one is 3ohm but you can get them in 1.5, 2.2 and 5ohm.
