I think there is some kind of quick fix putty but the chance of getting it to stick whilst petrol is pissing out is non existant. Get that tank off asap you don't want a bike covered in petrol and to be honest I wouldn't be riding it either. Cheaper to have it taken home than to go up in a ball of flames

Yes!!

Easy fix once you have it home.

Doesn't sound like you're having a nice run with this bike Ibby! Once it's all sorted though it will be a good un.

i treated my YSR80 tank with somthing that coats the inside petseal. however you will need to get it home first.
is the tank rough cosmeticaly ? you can use an external petrol tank sealer as a stop gap from halfrauds its like a putty that cures. but it will make your tank look shite on the outside.
yes they can be repaired and welded but with the nature of the fumes not many will want to do this. it needs to be soaked in water inside and out for a while to ensure the vapours gone and not going to cause an explosion.
where are you in the UK, got a spare you can borrow if you need it to be kept mobile. cant promise it will match, its an early RWB tank going on my project bike. i wont need it for a couple of weeks. am in cheshire just by maxton and oulton park.

Unfortunately apart from the leak the tank is mint! and its been sprayed in the RC30 colours. Ive managed to patch it with tank putty to get me home. Im hoping it can be braised or welded up and then just touched up. Its set me back a bit, starting to wonder if owning an 18 year old bike is for me, everytime i go out on it something goes wrong!! :(

Thanks for the offer for the loan of another tank. but once i get it home im going to leave it for a bit and weigh up my options!!

Finally got home doing 30mph al the way!! just to add insult to injury the gearbox started to play up again and it wouldnt shift up the box. So everytime i had to change gear i had to change down then change up really quickly. Had to do that for 28miles!! The joys of owning an NC30 :(

thats not right, is that the gearbox stuffed ? i think an engine swop over a weekend could be in order.
if you like the bike to ride then take advantage of the winter and a full strip / refresh.
sure it may be 18 years old, but look at it this way, it would be a 3 year old duke or it could be a 20 year old RC, regardless of what it is, if you like it and enjoy it (and can afford it) then keep on top of it. be a shame to break it for bits or give up for a few niggles.

The thing is im just not mechanically minded and struggle with the simplest of tasks, i understand it in my brain but my hands just dont co-operate if you know what i mean! I love riding the bike i really do, but at my level of riding i may aswell be riding a bloody fs1e 50!! I think i might be better equipped riding something new without anything to worry about!!

On the subject of my bike. i think the gearbox is shafted i really do. i have to change up tap it back then change up again. then while im riding i can feel that there is no gear again as the lever goes up but nothing happens!! its a total pain in the arse!!
