i just curious i have a gsxr 400 gk76a with a blown engine (dropped a valve) and just wondered what bandit engine (upgrading or matching 400cc) can i fit with hassle free work (bolt straight in). as there are no engines within the country within reasonable prices but there seem to be millions of bandits!!!!

Hi,
You cannot use a Bandit motor as they are hung from the cylinderhead (beam frame) unlike the gk76 that is sat in the frame. You cannot use Bandit valves etc. as they and the gk73A ones are thicker than the gk76A. If you want to use the Bandit you would have to make oneoff engine mounts to mount the front of the motor to your frame and this is IF the motor will even fit in the frame due to a different shape sump that is not interchangeable betwen motors.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the later GSXR750 used the same frame to mount the engine, with a different swing-arm and sub-frame. I saw one at Stafford last saturday which looked identical. I guess that's why the GK76a seems much bigger than most 400's. Actually, i'm not sure about the swingarm, may just be a bigger wheel.
