Crank regrind

Please could someone tell me if i can get my NC30 reground as I have two and where the piston shells go around the crank in one place it is worn. Once the crank has been ground are bigger shells available.

Would have thought would be easier and cheaper to buy a second hand crank, never had any of my race cranks reground, if pick up on shells just lob new crank in.

May be wrong but thats what we have alwyas done.

So what your saying is don't worry about it even though the shell had scored the crank and worn it!!

Hi, could you not have it metal sprayed then ground down back to standard? I would of thought it would be cheaper than a new crank?
I wouldnt use a worn crank with new shells, asking for trouble.

I think theres an electroplating process to build the metal up again, then grind, but it'd prob cost as much or more than a second hand crank

i would not recommend having the crank ground or metal sprayed. i have seen metal spray peel off and would make a nice mess of your engine. Were do you get undersize shells from?

I know you can have the crank sub arc welded and then reground but a motor of ebay would be alot cheaper.

Hi, the firm below have done some work for me in the past( surface grinding and machining mainly), and have always been very helpfull, and do lots of other work (including metal spraying as far as i know). Maybe worth a phone call.

I know of a person that bought a 'low milage' engine for his R6 off evilbay, recieved it, it stunk of castrol r. Paid somebody lots to swap it then rattled like a goodun when started, so be very carefull buying unseen engines offa evilbay.

No what it was I bought an L plate NC of the dredded but fancied a project paid £500 for the bike knowing the crank and a piston had gone as though a nice bargain for the winter, then seen a crank and bits on their paid £15 for the crank and pistons and on one bearing suface its worn badly so now have two cranks that cant do anything with so engine stripped in kitchen waiting for either a nice person on here who may have a spare kicking around or the rework!!!!!
