UPDATE, Tank range on my vfr 400 nc-30

Post by Danzio »

Hi guys, i was asking questions around the internet about how far my nc-30 would take me at motorway speeds (around 70-80mph) with a full tank.

now as previously quoted, for a full tank i was told about 210-220 kilometers before reserve was needed. this would include a few naughty moments when all hell's let loose and 2nd gear is engaged at 70mph to get passed large annoying trucks, or just to pick up the pace abit.

I managed around 255-260 KM before reserve then at one point got the TRIP round to 290 before i finally pulled in for fuel.

How would you guys rate this?

i think i was being quite leniant with the throttle, rarely ringing its neck.

It was a trip From newcastle upon tyne to hemel hempstead, using the M1 all the way down. (hemel is just south of luton for those who don't know!)

quite a good bike for motorway speeds, plenty power for overtaking, fairings kept the wind off me enough so i didn't feel abused by the wind (even with small tank bag) and the bikes suspension and handling kept me safe and stable even during passing lorries (huge wind changes) and general side wind moments!

Fantastic little bike which never skipped a beat, however i will be chaging my oil and filter after a large journey like this and as they need doing anyway getting the sparkies done too!

Bless the little lump's cotton socks, 70mph in 2nd on a motorway :o It's a 6 speed box you crazy fool :scare:

Well i get 120miles on a motorway run (75-80mph) before reserve, no idea what this is in km's.

120 miles is about 193 km... how the hell did you come up this short!?

yeah and only 2nd in 70mph when i really...like, really needed everything the little begger had to get through tight gaps and avoid the notorious bmw death swoop (chaging all 5 motorway lanes in one fell swoop never even thinking about using the indicators..)

which brings me to this... Image

Modifications have there consequences...

2nd gear at 70mph must be at least 10,000rpm....The peak power is around 12,500rpm...So that'll mean you'd have about 2 seconds before you need to change gear before your actually decreasing the torque curve....

MPG is a myth, really and there are too many variables. You'll get more out of a tank if used in 1 go rather than stop-start, same tank of fuel for a few days, air-temp, typre of fuel, weight of the rider etc etc and that's all before looking at tuning. An endcan and jet kit will reduce MPG, throttle position and speed also affects it.

I'll be using a 50cc scootay for the work jaunt for the next few weeks until I can find a s-moto to fill in for it. £5 of fuel will last weeks in that scootay :D

Scootay - Piaggio NRG
S-Moto - Dunno yet, still do research into what's best suited to me.

Picking the scoot up this week, will be a laugh in full 'roo's and dark visor. I'm gonna go race Corsa's and Nova's and fit neons to it :p
