3TJ Headlight

Post by ROB-RD350 »

Quick question, can you replace the 400 3TJ headlight with one from another model like the 600 with normal uk bulbs?

Done a quick search but didn't find any answers.

Thanks in advance

Yes, the one for the FZR1000EXUP 1991-92 has a single H4 bulb in the centre

It does fit behind the 3TJ central bracket but it's a bit of a squeeze.

Changing the bulb looks just about possible in situ but only just.

I changed mine after both the projector bulbs blew and it was cheaper to get the H4 headlight than 2 bulbs for the projectors.

If you get the 1000's loom with it, then it will have the H4 fitting.

There are other bikes that have the same fitting too - FZR600, TRX850 etc.
You should probably fit a relay to be on the safe side

Yeah, splice the H4 connector block on in parallel to what you've got so you can revert to projectors later if you want to.

You don't need a relay... you're reducing total load. I'm beginning to think that Evil has shares in a relay company.

Got no pics. Trust me it fits but it's just tight. There's nothing on evilbay at the moment anyway.

Nah - I put some lamps on the Bimota and they were fine ... then they didn't work and I found the wires broke dure to heat cycling. There wasn't even a difference between the total voltage draw ....

I usuually play safe on the forum, I don't want to say yeah chuck something in and have it damage anything

I tell people exactly the same as I have done myself without problems. If mine had a problem then I would recommend otherwise but I am an engineer by profession and don't overdesign or overcomplicate matters more than necessary, either at work or in my own garage.
