GK76a Cam-Chain Adjustment?

Post by Jaicen »

Can anybody explain how to adjust the cam-chain on a GK76a (1992)??
It's a little rattly, nothing major but I can hear it, so I figure I'd adjust it up while I've got the tank off.

Hi J,
The cam chain is on a self adjusting setup, as the chain stretches the adjuster uses a spring to keep the chain at the correct tension. If there is noise it could be valves or the fact that the chain is at its limit and there is no adjustment left and if so then the cam chain can whip under power backing the tensioner off and allowing the chain to jump on the sprokets, this results in the valves hitting the piston and you go pop! If its bad its worth looking into.

I wouldn't say it's loud by any stretch, it's possible that it could be the valve clearances. To be honest, when i'm riding, it's not noticable, just when i've got my head down near the engine.
Either way, how the hell do I get into the cam chain/valves???
