Air box question NC30

The lid of my airbox never closed snugly on the left side once the filter is in place. Removed, it fits perfectly. To-date, I've sealed the gap up with ducktape but always reckoned I still had a leak. I inspected the inside of the cover & it appears to have a pronounced one inch ridge on the left side which must be causing the gap when the filter 's in place.
Should I ground down this ridge or does it serve a purpose?

Any help appreciated.

Personally I've never had an airbox that fits too cash hot. A bit of muscle has worked for me in the past, but I wouldn't imagine you'd need to grind anything? Not very helpful I know!

I would think that an airbox would suck air from where it's more available (i.e. the front) rather than a small gap on the side.

But, I haven't run an airbox for years, so what would I know anyway?

No idea, but the airbox lid should sit flush with the lower with no leaks. Anything else will affect the carburetion.

Is it a standard filter? It should seat/seal properly.

Its a standard filter. I thought either the lower or upper piece was warped but then it can't be as it closes properly with no filter?
