HELP!!! cant get my front wheel back on
the bikes been sitting on paddock stands with no wheels on for a week or 2 and now iv come to put the wheels back on the front wont fit on...
its like were the spindle goes its about 30mm tighter, the wheel will go in without the spacers but the disks are virtually rubbing on the forks and I cant get the wheel in with the spacers in place.
I dont get it the wheel came out fine, its like the forks have bent in the time they have been sitting on the paddock
has anyone had a simialr problem before or got any advice on getting the wheel in?

Re: HELP!!! cant get my front wheel back on
the simple option of pulling the legs apart (vicar) would be the plan?
SO, you got the calipers off, the bike on stands that cuip the bottom of the stanchions and the wheel, with spacers, does ont physically fit in there any more?
I rekcon you need to get a bit of strength on it and if that fails then push it over to teach it a lesson

Re: HELP!!! cant get my front wheel back on
Was the paddock stand one of the ones that sits under each fork leg?
Was it on a rear stand or Abba? Just thinking of the weight on the front wheel...
I could see if it's been sat on those with nothing keeping the forks apart, it might happen, but I wouldn't have thought so really?!
Very odd. Force them to except the spacers, I'm sure it'll be fine!

Re: HELP!!! cant get my front wheel back on
by paddock stand, do you mean one that the fork bottoms sit on? if so, might be worth putting axle stands under the engine/chassis someplace or tying it to the rafters or something so you can get it of the stand to move the fork legs about / widen them a bit?

Re: HELP!!! cant get my front wheel back on
yeh front paddock stand that lifts under the forks and rear paddock stand
Im gona try a bottle jack betweent he legs to force it a little open then get the bugger in, tried with bottle jack under the sump removeing front stand and it wont spring back, this is really pissing me off! and il need to be able to swap wheels quickly so i can get it on wets effort free.

It is going to be user error mate..just got to figure out what you are doing wrong!
Are the bottoms totally parallel or is there a slight twist on the stand?

I found your problem! your putting 'wheels' in, you only have space for one front wheel!Spike16 wrote:the bikes been sitting on paddock stands with no wheels on for a week or 2 and now iv come to put the wheels back on the front wont fit on...

On a more serious note, do you have the spacers mixed up? Im not sure if there different?

Spike: a front headstock stand will avoid this problem in future.

Re: HELP!!! cant get my front wheel back on
The forks wont bend under the weight of the bike, the only movement will be down to the clearance in the top and bottom bushes, around 2mm at the bottom of the fork, and they can be moved with light hand pressure.
Either the spacers are reversed or you are trying to put the wheel in back to front.
Dave.
