GK76A Carb Query - diaphragms

Post by Richardbarton82 »

I took the tops of my carbs at the week end to check needle height as it seems to be running rich. I have changed all o-rings. When I removed the diaphragms I found a lot of dry black rubbery powder is this perished diaphragms??

Thanks
Ric

Hi Ric,
If you gently clean them they should look smooth and shinny, when they perrish they tend to blow up and look rough, they get that they dont sit right in the carb body groove and the carb tops sit badly.

sounns like I may have a problem with my diapragms then as when I took them off at the weekend they seemed quite baggy and didn't fit perfectly in the carb body although I did get the tops back on fairly easily.

Is it worth replacing them as a precaution? Any idea where to get replacements from and how much i should expect to pay?

I think mine a buggard then as they are all rough underneath and soon pop out of shape.

I just ordered some from http://www.wemoto.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and they are instock with next day delivery.

They should be kind of baggy as the diaphram is large enough to allow the slide to move but they go rough and the ringed edge that should sit in the carb body groove will look fat and rough. As longas they are soft and smooth then they are ok. Take a good look at the picture on the wemoto site and get a comparison. The price is good as they are generally about £26 from the carb specilists.
