Petrol tap assembly issues, help appreciated greatly!

Post by Twisted_Individual »

Ok............ walked into the garage this morning to be greeted by a strong smell of petrol! ( NC24) not good!
Went to work anyway....as my other bike isnt rideable yet, got it home, took the tank off to find that petrol is seeping from the point that the round rod from the tap goes into the assembly ( ie under the tank, closest to the left hand side pannel) very strange!

Not sure how to go about repairing it! and ive got to use it for the next 4 days untill i get my other bike rideable! eeeeeek!

I tried to get an allan key into the 2 allen head bolts but couldnt find one the right size??? again strange as i have a full set, i thaught maybe i could just tighten it and it would stop the leak.... any 1 had any similar problems with an NC?? i assume they all have a similar petrol tap assembly.

In the meanwhile untill i can get it off the road i have moved all electrical wires out of the way, and will be riding with constant fear of going up in smoke!!!! not ideal i know but i have to get to work!

Try metric allens if you were using imperial.. Its prob a rubber o-ring thats gone, open the thing up and check the state of all the rubber inside, including the diaphragm

There's a good chance that nc24 and nc30/35 fuel taps are interchangeable.

Post up a pic of how yours mounts to the tank and we'll soon know.

cool i,ll take a picture on saturday and post it, because it worrying the shit out of me! ive had the tank off 3 times now and tightend everything etc and looked for anything obvious but to no avail!

And im having real trouble finding another petrol tap assembly, as soon as i get my other bike back on the road on saturday i,ll drain the tank, take the petrol tap off and have a look, it seems like the petrol is coming from the inside of the tap assembly, (ie closest to the clutch side, side panel, before the diaphragm part, im hoping thats its just something simple like an o ring etc....as i can get one from work.....

Keep your fingers crossed for me! only 2 more days of riding it untill i can sort the tap out! if you see a bright green, fightered, nc24 on fire on the m6 junction 5 you know its me! HAHHAHAHHAHAHA
