Quick wiring loom question

Post by dropoutdave »

Hi all,

Am just in the process of tidying up a replacement loom for my NC23 and found an extra wire in there that has definitely been modified at some stage. The new wire is tapped into the fan cable from the ignition switch and replaces the cable from the fuel pump to the fuel pump relay. The old cable from the fuel pump relay is still in place coming from the fuel pump relay but has been cut and left bare in the wiring loom??

See pic if that didn't make any sense!

Does anyone know of any reason why this wire would have been put here or if I should just return the loom to it's normal setup?

Thanks in advance

That modification removes the fuel pump relay from the circuit. Perhaps the relay itself is dodgy?

He's used the fan switch feed as it is the right polarity and activates with the ignition, all it means is the fuel pump is active when the ignition circuit is on. The fuel pump relay on the CBR makes sure the fuel pump is only on when the engine is cranking.

Hmmm, I have another relay, perhaps change that out and return the wiring to normal would be the best bet. What would be the outcome of the fuel pump being active when the bike isn't ticking over?

Hi with regard what if you dont use the relay, it will burn the contacts in the pump out as the relay does the job of turning the pump on & off only when the engine is running it stops the pump contacts doing all the work with out the relay the contacts in the pump are energised all the time and therefore cause them to erode quicker.

Thanks for that Piston, I think I'll set it up as it used to be and keep a spare pump around just incase it's on it's way out.
