Tyres & Sprockets

Post by tonec »

I'll be changing the tyres on my 94 SF soon and wondered what people would recommend. I'm running BT090's at the moment and they grip well but wear quite quickly. I was thinking of BT92's but they don't make a rear anymore so has anyone run different sizes ?? 120 Front and 150 Rear.
I'd also like to run Renthal sprockets when they need changing but they don't list the SF but do show the CBR NC23, do they fit ??

BT92's are ace, your assumptions are correct. For road riding there is more grip than a 50bhp 400 will ever really exceed, but they last about 8k on a rear. Someone must still have stock. The CB-1 could run a 150/60, but it's not really worth it, you are unlikely to reach the edges.

I don't see the point in alloy sprockets, they wear out and take the chain with them, what's the point?? Steel ones wear after a while, and alloy ones are softer by a long shot, particularly once the anodising is worn off which won't take long on the drive faces. My diversion came with one and it annoys hell out of me, but I also hate changing things before they wear out.

Amorti, Thanks for your comments. I could probably do with a 150 Rear Tyre as I'm getting to the edge of a 140 but I was wondering about the effect of a 120 Front on handling, turn in, etc.

Sprockets - Alloy ones do need a lot of care, I'd prefer to use Renthal as I know they're good quality but wasn't sure on sizes and fitting. Any comments if anybody's tried my suggestions
