fzr1000 Ru exup what to do? Sell it or break it?

Post by Riley »

After an outsiders opinion really, I have this 1993 Fzr1000 Ru exup which is complete has current Mot and tax but is in need of a new clutch/clutch basket, c+s, and tyres. Otherwise it is a very good machine, its not perfect but its far from being a dog, I was riding it today and its a nice bike. Ordinarily I don't think twice about ripping Nc30's and Rvf apart. I don't know whether to move it on for £800 as is, carry out the work and sell it for around £1400 or just split it. I have no real attachment to the bike but its a nice machine to ride. Any opinions welcomed.

By the way I'm still toying with the idea of the Fzr400/600 but I have to pay for the wedding first!

FZR1000s don't go for much.

I tried to sell mine (89-90 model with nothing wrong with it) and was barely going to get £950.

£1400 is too much for a bike this age when you see year 2000 bikes at about the £2000 mark. I certainly tried at that level but nothing doing.

If you're going to sell it then I used to pay £700 for RUs to break, so that's about right. I would not go spending more on it as you'll not get it back.

Breaking will get more money generally
Engine £250-300
Complete front end £250-300
Frame & docs £50-60
Rear end £150
Dowenpipes £100-150 if the exup valve is all good

etc, etc. but it's more hassle obviously.

See if anyone on exup1000.co.uk or fzr1000.co.uk is after spares (doubt they'll want a whole bike as they'll probably have one already but you never know). Creedxup may still buy bikes to break (He's in Hastings)

Nice one plodder, if I'm honest I thought that might be the case but it just seems a shame, anyone after anything? ;)

The old RU's are nice enough but sufferred from not being a fireblade. If somebody wanted a fast comfy bike with a pillion then it would be a useful thing to consider, but as said they're cheap andit's because they don't really sell.

For me I'd look to keep it .... but that's just me. I'd look to get a cheap clutch basket and plates from e-bay then sell it. Problemis it's not original colours which detracts from the price. .... or ust stick £800 on it and hope it sells
