That Sinking Feeling.
My bike has been running really badly the past few days, culminating in the AA having to recover it on Saturday as it died and fuel started leaking out. Got the carbs off today and the first thing I notice is that all four float bowls have been leaking fuel, and then it hits me. The other day I put a little bottle of fuel system cleaner in the tank, this is something I quite often do with my car as it seems to keep things smooth.
I suspect that this has eaten away the seals in the carbs, can't think of anything else that could account for all four bowls leaking at once.
I have not opened the carbs yet to look at the state of the diaphrams, as I got a bit narked at the point and walked off in disgust.
Are parts still available for these carbs?

You didn't put a whole bottle in did you there normally concentrated to treat 10 gallons or so it may have just dissolved some instant gasket on the bowl seals .
The diaphragms don't really come into a lot of contact with the fuel so they should be OK.

Those additives are really bad news in my opinion. They are just a lazy mechanics substitute for hard labour. And nothing beats getting dirty when you are dealing with your fuel system!
I wouldn't be using no instant gasket on my carbs either! Source yourself a new set of the proper seals.

This is just cheapest way yo fix this in case you use very good gasket maker. OEM gasket is better... absolutely agree.greggo wrote:Those additives are really bad news in my opinion. Well I have learned my lesson on this one, gaskets and diaphrams both fecked. The only thing that could have caused this is the additive. Ordered four new sets of seals from silvers and will flush everything out. Ah well, carbs needed cleaning anyway.
What a dumbass.
