Headlight problems

Post by Wozza »

My Tri-Arm's dipped beam stopped working recently, however the full beam and sidelights were still working fine.
So today I replaced both bulbs with a pair of standard ones, discovering that the old bulbs are 60/55s (I have no idea if my bike has the appropriate headlight mod to accept these). Also, only one of the old bulbs appeared to be burnt out.
On testing the new bulbs, the dipped beam is still not working. Full beam is working, but now only the RHS sidelight is working.

Could it be the switch is buggered, as a result of running higher wattage bulbs without having the mod?

100% correct.

2 options. Graeme France for a new (or good 2nd hand) switch gear, or a good auto electricians who can repair your original switch gear.

BUT.. you MUST fit the headlight mod (or fit the right wattage bulbs for your bike 45/55?) BEFORE you fit the new/fixed switch gear on.. it will simply burn out again!

Cheers guys, will check it out tomorrow. LP, I fitted standard 60/35s so should be ok. I swear I'm single-handedly paying Graeme's wages at the moment! Not that that's a bad thing mind  I better give him a call early before he sends out the order I placed today!

thought standard was 35/55 for CBRs? i know it is for NC29s.
your manual should tell you whet you need. BUT .. "standard" bulbs i have found are expensive!
if you want to use higher "normal" H4 bulbs.. the mod is required.
sadly i never got my hands on the how to instructions. all i know is you add a relay in to the dip wiring and upgrade the fuse.

60/35s are what G sent me!
Anyway, the switches seem fine - no burnt or melted parts... :?:

Update: Refitted switchgear and I am now getting dipped beams - however they come on and off when the main/dipped beam switch is wiggled. So, new switchgear on the way from Mr F. LHS sidelight is still not working - may just be the bulb - will worry about that when I've got the new switchgear on.

Right, next problem:
My lower speedo light is not working. The old bulb is dead, but it's still not working with a good bulb. The contacts look fine and I've checked all connections. Wires look ok. What could it be?
