buying guide?
hello everyone!
I had a look around and couldnt find a buying guide for a vfr 400, I have had bikes before but not for a few years so im just wondering if someone can give me pointers as to what to look for /be weary of when going to look at a bike, Im going to look at a 1990 vfr 400 tommorrow and just wondering if you chaps can give me any pointers,
(also how does the cam chain work on vfrs I am sure its different to normal motorbike cam chains but I dont know how!)

its gear driven cams as oppose to a cam chain.

Absolutely, tho the linkage driving the cams from the crank on mine was making a clanking sound till i opened it up.. If you look at the posts on this forum, you'l get an idea of the problems your likely to face with an NC, mostly a slighlty shoddy reg/rec system, temperamental plugs and other engine spares can be a bit pricey by are mostly available.. The boneys a solid machine tho and not too rare to see 50k mileage models still running with no prob.. They relatively easy to work on if youv read how to do something.. And they rev like hell and ride the same!
Look for dodgy clanks from the engine when cold and warm, the worst you can encounter is a damaged crank from damaged main bearings.. Pretty obvious to see that tho, just look at the general shape and sound from it, take it for a ride definately or have a friend ride it before buying.. Any problems with it and you know where to come to fix them.. Consider all the above, and if its a good price and looks good go for it, tho vfrs are pretty common 2nd hand so make sure you know whether you getting a good deal.. Good luck.. Colin

cheers, theres a few around in general is around £1000 reasonable for an average condition one thats mechanically alright? seems they sit around the 1-1500 for average ones and obviosuly more for minters
