NC30 Rear calliper mounting issue!! help spent 3 days on it!

hi guys, new guy into the little 400 ranges. lol. basically i got a calliper problem on the back,
i've taken the wheel off to change the tyres and took calliper off as i didnt realise it didnt need to come off. and now i cant put it back on as the bottom of the Hub hits the top of the caliper body and wont let one of the bolts line up... been trying to do it for 3 days now, i've tried loosening and tightening the clamp bolt on swingarm and what not but calliper still wont go on, i've loosend the Pro arm linkage aswell. but the bracket the calliper mounts on seems too high for the calliper to fit perfect.

any help would be appreciated!

P.S. the Haynes manuals bollocks and doesnt tell me anything.... but i have got one.

What you need to do by the sounds of it matey, is slacken off the Rear hub Pinch bolt on the top side of the swing arm and gently tap the brake caliper holder around the hub a little bit and see if that lowers it. Otherwise, you could try getting a chain adjuster tool and the turning the hub fully until it becomes low enough to re-mount the caliper, then just re tension your chain and give it a spin to check its all fitted fine etc and bobs your uncle.

Sounds like the rear hub has gone over it's adjustment point,slack the pinch bolt off and turn the hub.

bugger aint got a standard toolkit so no C spanner, is it safe to use an old screwdriver and mallet?

what way should i turn it?

Don't use a screwdriver and hammer you will ruin your adjustor, the right tool only costs about £10. If you really must use something else in the short term use an aluminium drift.

Only if you follow these instructions:

1) Place the tang of the screwdriver against the teeth of the adjuster with one hand.
2) With the mallet in the other hand, look at the face of the mallet and pull it towards your face very hard but do not blink or try and stop the mallet.
3) If you feel the urge to actually hit the screwdriver with the mallet again, then goto 2. Repeat as necessary.

ha ha love the way u put that there, with the mallet an all that. i can see me enjoying my time here. dont worry guys i got it back on those who mentioned the chain adjuster thing i owe you a virtual pint lol.

Glad you took it the way it was meant but it is very good advice.
I have seen too many rear hubs mangled by the screwdriver method, the cost of the proper tool is minimal and it will do the job right.

i'm part of another bike forum which is very good but not many people have the old NC30's or NC35's(and cant sense when people are double checking possible theories like this one). but after seeing how much some of the parts are i didnt want to muck the Hub/swingarm/any other parts, i have worked on Ducatis and the like as i own my own Bike business but havent had any VFR's ever come in. regarding the drift i just wanted to make sure really as some metal can take stuff like that perfectly fine and some cant.
