Re: Cheepest weight saving modds
the electromagnetic disconecting thing is lenz's law, due to flux being induced into the coil so yeh disconecting it would reduce some resistance in the generator which would save some power for the rear wheel, would be interesting on a dyno doing a back to back actually
iv just made some ally clip on bars with nylon ends that have a 3mm tube wall (pritty beefy so shouldnt bend in an off) and the pair weigh 320g, but i might trim them down and bit so that could drop to about 300 we'll see. I think on the weight list it says the stadard tubes are 800g and with clamps their 1900, thats about 1/2 a kilo that cost me £8
o the weight of a standard hanger 150g, cutting the centre bits out takes it to 120 so thats only 15g more than a carbon one, not bad for free

Ronni:
He wants a dual purpose road/race bike, so a switch would be very convenient, but if the plug is accessible, thats probably a better idea, lighter :)
How often do you guys fall off when going for it at the track? I'm very scared to drop my bike at the track. just the ferring damage would be pretty expensive. What kind of damage is typical in sliding out?

Re: Cheepest weight saving modds
havent dropped mine yet (thats 2 td's so far) touch wood,
iv got crash bungs and solid rearsets so hopefully they will keep the bike up a bit to reduce as much damage as possible but oftem lever's get scuffed/break, fairings scratched, possible rearsets bend (if you throw it down hard) and mabe a clip on bending (hence i made my tube thick as fuck)
and my race fairings didnt cost me much (thanks to a very helpful forum member and my sponsors for making them look good) so im not too worried if I do drop it, its just the HRC rearsets i dont wana mess up

Re: Cheepest weight saving modds
o and iv hacked my exhaust bracket up a bit, removed pillion pegs, standard brake res and coolant res in exchange for HRC ones (every little helps)[
Technically that's illegal - if you have a pillion seat, you have to have footrests for them - I think it's an mot fail if you don't

Re: Cheepest weight saving modds
really didnt no that? but i dont have a pillion seat, iv got a hard seat cowl,
and if were questioning the legality of my bike, I think we should start with the race can, mini number plate, the dark visor on my lid and its not restricted to 33bhp, also the HRC stuff has for competition only on the labels so that would make my brake res, coolant bottle and rearsets all illegal... and in year of riding iv never been stopped by a cop, seen 100's looking at the bike tho lol
Im not worried about the law, if i get caught i deserve what I get and I know and accept that.
Il make sure I put them back on for the MOT tho, cheers for the heads up

Re: Cheepest weight saving modds
you will knacker your rearsets and clip ons in any lowside higher than 20 miles an hour....if you highside then rearsets are the last of your worries.
Although I salute you search for cheap weight saving....its all irelevent if you continue to use shit tyres
weight saving on a competitive bike with a competitive rider in a race is one thing but IMHO (and dont get me wrong there is very little weight left to shed from my CBR other than wheels and whats left of my subframe) its all a bit pointless on a trackbike althoguh like you I am guilty of searching for it.
I recon I could lap Dono fractionally faster on my CBR than I could have on my old RVF the thing that would have stopped me doing that is the price of repairing the RVF compared to repairing the CBR.

I didn't know that either, but my bike was just passed without them and with a race cannc21man wrote:o and iv hacked my exhaust bracket up a bit, removed pillion pegs, standard brake res and coolant res in exchange for HRC ones (every little helps)[

Re: Cheepest weight saving modds
well my homemade clip on tubes are done and fitted they weigh 284g and cost £8 i total
thats a saving of 1306g over the standard tubes, think thats got to be one of the cheepest weight mods that dosnt compromise the bike in any way.
they also look cool and are an extra 15mm longer so in an off should help lift the bike off the deck a bit aswell as my crash bungs and rearsets.
also got a keyless race filler cap that saves 155g over the standard item, did cost about £30 tho

Spike, just a pointer to check that your aftermarket filler cap has a breather hole, lots of them don't.Spike16 wrote: also got a keyless race filler cap that saves 155g over the standard item, did cost about £30 tho
The standard ones are able to let air in and out if you have a close look at them, you can run into fuel problems unless you drill a very small hole in the aftermarket one.
