Have you checked the speedo cable?

It might have worn out.

New one is fairly cheap on here http://www.bitzforbikes.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Doesn't leave many options really I guess, broken speedo drive or broken speedo.

I am just going through the same problem, put a new cable in and wont work. When I took the speedo assemply out of the clocks bracket and took off the assembley where the speedo cable attaches to, the problem will be obvious. The plastic speedo drive gear was worn and was not contacting and not turning the speedo.

Havent priced a genuine one, but opefully wont be too scarey! was only $35NZ for the genuine speedo cable, so thats about 10-15 quid.
