Race shift on a TJ
Howdo gang...not been down here awhile since I sold my FZR600 to Rammy
Now have purchased, may my V4 forgive me, a hybrid 3tj to race on
Want to set it for race shift but I am loathe to go chopping the clutch/sprocket casing jobby which is in the way.
How is it done? Anyone got race shift want to send me a pic of their linkage and rod?
Must confess...am liking the Yamaha vibe. Norick Abe was the law

Cheers Boris, kind of knew you'd have some info for me
I have non std rearsets as it stands and there is no provision to change the linkage at the lever end. On the NC you just flip the actuator rod 180 degrees and the job is jobbed.
I'll pop a pic on.
Are the SES set the £99 ones?

Yes - I think the SES are about £100 ... you might be able to find SES on the wed and ask them direct

Re: Race shift on a TJ
As per the tasty pics - could I not grind the lowe edge of this sprocket cover off and flip the input shaft linkage over?
Don't want to be spending more money on it...skint rough!

Just cut a hole out of the sprocket cover. Also remove the centre of the cover to make access for the front sprocket. I will post a pick of mine if you like!

Re: Race shift on a TJ
Hope this helps. You have 2 choices.
1. you need a selector shaft clamp with a step like mine so that it can be rotated and clear the sprocket cover.
2. there is no reason why you cant cut more of the cover away to allow the original clamp to be rotated.
I run a normal road pattern on my race bikes and never found it a problem.

Re: Race shift on a TJ
cheers for that mate. Looks pretty useful.
I run race shift on my road bike and my other race bike and so I don't want to be getting wigged out and destroying an engine or spend any mental effort trying to figure out up or down....
A stepped selector shaft clamp looks like the way forward - where can you get them and what is the real hame? Any idea what bike your one came from?
Would rather not get chopping the cover I have as I don't have a spare in case if balls it up.
Any advice gratefully received.
I have a TD n the 14th June and my first race on the bike is 25th/26th with DP @ Cadwell (if I get an entry)

Re: Race shift on a TJ
The stepped clamp on mine is part of the rearset (expensive jap market items called Coerce)
Maybe worth a look on ebay or posting in other forums to see if any bikes use the stepped style as standard.
If you do cut it away there is next to no chance of making a balls up, there is very little behind the cover to damage.
I use a round hacksaw blade, remove the clutch push rod system, use the inset of the cover as my cutting line and off you pop.
If i was you i would just cut off the last couple of inches to leave you plenty of room for your selector clamp(i think that is the correct word)
