cdi nc23 cbr400 is there a choice

Post by wig »

My mates mess around with the computers in their cars to alter fuel ratios and stuff.

can this be done with a cbr400?
if not, can different cdi's be purchased that are less efficient on gas but faster, or more efficient and slower for the long trips?

managed to get my hunk of junk running so now want to mess about with it which will probly make it not running again.lol.

You'll have to do the injector mod first...

you make that sound like its an easy job.

Wig, your mates cars have fuel injection, this does the same job as your carbs but the fuel metering is controlled electronically rather than mechanically as it is with the jets in the carbs.

It would be a lot of work to convert it to FI, its probably better and easier to get it on a rolling road and make sure that the carbs are set up properly.

Hehe, there was a hint of sarcasm in my post. However, I'm sure anything is possible!

Lol,

Sorry, it went straight over my head!

I still reckon carbs are better anyway. at least carbs dont suddenly stop working when its raining or leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.

It might be worth taking note of the old adage 'if it aint broke, dont fix it' If your bike is running ok etc then with the weather the way it is, go out and get some miles on it. theres bound to be times where its in the garage/shed and isnt working cos somethings gone wrong and thats the time to tinker.

If you're riding it, things are going to wear out etc and you get to play with stuff as and when it goes wrong. Or, start going through maintenance stuff so youve got a bike thats totally up together. The front of the haynes manual has a load of stuff to do for servicing and intervals etc.

cool, i have been looking at that. last time I used it I used it to help me adjust my clearances thinking it was those that was making a tinkering sound - but it turned outto be leaking exhaust gaskets.
It was fun doing them and my girlfriend (who is now getting into bikes!!!) helped me.lol, i was working out the shims and she doen them all in her head

I then procedded to turn the rear wheel and make the cam cogs eat the engine gasket
whoops.
I repaired it with sealant after rolling the bike backwards to remove it.
that kind of put me of doing stuff like that.
with push bikes - if maintained they last so well and so much longer, - but i find it hard to drive myself to do maintenance on the bike - i think as im scared i will break something else lol.
I have some carbs on the way i can clean and store as the needle height or idle screws have boken seized in them as i would them in too much.
whoops.
cheers for the advice. I love cycling but nothing comes close to riding a motorbike!

Well its worth getting spares and stuff, you never know when you are going to need bits and pieces.

you'll find as well that the more you do stuff, the easier it gets.
