Ignition System Issue

Post by ZumaQT »

Hi there,

Been lurking on the board for a bit now, and with the aid of the search function and archived wisdom have been steadily restoring a (much neglected) 1989 NC30 i took ownership of a while back and after sorting a problem with the rear cylinder head managed to get it to fire up fairly smoothly

Although after a short while running the front downpipes were still stone cold so after pulling the front plugs out to test them with the starter turning over, there was no spark. Swapped the coils and it worked when on the rear so the coil itself seems fine. Then started checking the voltage off the positive lead connected to the coils and it read 12v on the rear, but only 3v on the front coil. This pattern continues all the way up to the CDI.

Is it likely to be a CDI fault? (Bearing in mind the bikes been stood outisde for nigh on 2 years). Is there any test i can do to make sure a healthy voltage is arriving at the CDI to make sure the fault isn't further up the loom? Electrics isn't really my strong point so any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Shaun
