Best engine and carb setup????
My new NC project is underway and will be a ground up build from a bare frame so looking for the best possible engine and carb setup. Im using a NC30 frame and i know some of you have fitted NC35 engines to 30 frames and 35 carbs to 30 engines and so on, as its a ground up build i dont mind going to the extra hassle of putting 35 engine in the 30 frame if thats going to be the better option so for those that have tried different combinations of engines and carbs lets hear your opinions, good and bad.
Its going to be a road bike so open airbox setups are probably out of the question, or do any of you run these setups on the road? Im liking the idea of ram air but have also heard these are a pig to run on the road.

Re: Best engine and carb setup????
35 engine and carbs, fit an ignitech cdi and hrc jet kit from Rick, get a TPS from cbr 400, tyga twin stack, some sort of under carb air tray and run the carbs semi-open (just a filter on the airbox baseplate). This is a high torque road setup, which is going to be just as smooth and fuss free as the original setup once jetting and setup is done.
And when you come to jetting, sort out your main jet first, then the pilot screw/jet and finally the needle taper/height. And use Ricks method of carb sync before you do anything with jets..

Cheers ronnie, do you have any more info on the semi open carb setup. A grunty setup is what I'm after, you got any dyno charts of the setup?
Why the tyga twin stack? I only ask as I'm not that keen on the style. Do tygas give more power than other twin stacks? I've got my eye on a side by side system, I think mhp do some very tasty systems

Re: Best engine and carb setup????
I don't know if its the best set up for the road but I'm happy with my set up, Nc30 engine, Rvf carbs, tyga larger airbox, K&N filter (had a new one supplied with a breaker), bead blasted standard downpipes with ethos half system. I haven't had it on a dyno but it pulls very strongly, notably better than my previous Nc30's/Rvf's. That said I did once have a standard Rvf which was by far the smoothest V4 I'd ridden.
Need any used Nc30 parts? Want to fit a Ducati front end to your Nc30? If so give me a shout.

I run RVF carbs, an air tray, short stacks, 130 mains and 3 sheets of HRC foam at the moment. Ignitech CDI too... and was running stacks when I got it dyno'd. ALso, running 14/41 gearing it pulls hard enough to skim the front wheel and lift it over camber changes. Dyno power was 59bhp - but as No9 is old and has been hammered I was happy with that. Pics are in the dyno run thread in rideout section.
Was a smooth curve indeed. Runs lovely after a lot of fettling.

was also wondering what that was, how does that wire up to the NC then?
