Will not go out of neutral?
Having a bit of trouble selecting gears sometimes, this happens more frequently when the bike is cold but it still happens too much for my liking when the bike is warm.
The problems hard to explain, it has a couple of different issues, for a start sometimes when slowing down to change into first it will click into neutral instead. Other times it will go into first, but as i pull away it will jump into neutral and just rev and not move. a similar thing happens when changing up, more often that not the bike prefers to go into neutral than second.
At first this was just an annoyance, but it seems to be getting worse and is at the point where i'll go to pull away and lose my balance and nearly come off due to no power. I've tried adjusting the clutch but no luck, can i adjust the gear linkage / lever? or is this a more complex problem?

Re: Will not go out of neutral?
Sounds like the "de-tense" (i think i spelt that correct) spring is worn or broken, this is the part that holds the gears in place. It is a very common fault on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd generation R6, but not one i have heard of on the fzr box so its just a good guess.
Does the gear lever feel a little slack?
I cant be 100% sure but i think you can gain access to this if the clutch basket is removed.
Hope this helps.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?

See how much slack there is on the gearchange (engine off and raising the pedal with your hand). Then adjust the gear change either by slackening the lock nuts each end of the rod and turning the rod (one of the ends has a lefthand thread).
Or mark the end of the gear shaft and the knuckle then take the knucle off and move it round one spine. check the splines are all ok and that the pinch bolt's done up. Thena adjust the gear pedal as above
Your looking to lower the gear pedal so you can kick it into gear more easily

if it is the de-tense spring (as i've not had a chance to play with the lever yet) where can i get one? searches have turned up nothing

Fowlers of Bristol is your best bet but i woukd do some thorough investigation first.
drop the chain off and makesure your selector adjustment is correct. if all that is good then its time to start stripping the motor

Re: Will not go out of neutral?
i had a quick fiddle with the gear lever today, i didn't try loosening off at the gearshaft but i did lower the pedal as much as possible before it would hit the rod when changing down. Still no better
i also noticed when i took it for a ride its now not just first and second gear, i'll be wanting to change down and no matter how hard i press the pedal there's nothing there, happens mostly when ive just gone down one gear, let the clutch out, slow down some more then go for another down shift, there's just nothing.
KIYOSHI, when you say about the selector adjustment, what do you mean exactly? this is my first bike and i'm not sure what im looking for

Re: Will not go out of neutral?
I just wanted to make sure you tried everything evil had said.
Just to confirm: the bike will select gears but when you try to change gear the lever moves but no gear is selected and it remains in the previous gear?
The gear lever feels slack and there is very little resistance?
When the bike is in gear and you accelerate hard does it jump ou of gear into a false neutral?
If all the above are correct then i woud suspect my original diagnosis is a pretty good one. The only other problem i could think of would be a bent selector.
If it is one of the above that is at fault then i am pretty sure that it is an engine out and strip down job to repair.
leo Aldersley of NM Tuning is the best man to speak to, he may well have come across this fault before and will certainly be able to offer a repair service. tel: 07984147578, tel him alex put you in touch. (dont call him till Monday though, he will prob be busy or away racing).
Where abouts are you? If you are local to me i would be willing to have a quick look at the bike for you.
If anyone else has any other ideas i think they would be very helpful!

Re: Will not go out of neutral?
the above sounds like a pretty good analysis, although its never gone into a false neutral or popped out of gear when accelerating, just when in first and pulling away, once or twice.
Everything else is bang on though unfortunately.
I'm in felixstowe, near ipswich? dunno where you are but presuming my bike is rideable i'd be willing to travel.

Re: Will not go out of neutral?
Might be little too far, im in Pontefract West Yorks!!!!!
Your best bet i think is to call Leo and see what he can do. Althoug he is in derbyshire so that is still a long way for you.
It might be worth you looking for a local bike engine builder to sort the prob if all the other possible causes have been ruled out.
