My Hybrid Update

Well, i finally got round to ordering the paint from RS Race Paints. I questioned whether to use them as it certainly wasn't a cheap option. Anyway, the top fairing in now red and white and the tank is currently just the "silky white"

Colour match is pretty close, i decided to do it myself as this thing is destined to be a track bike, so tidy rather than imaculate will do.

Sunday was "the day" i finally got to a stage where i could take my hybrid out for a quick spin. I couldn't go to far as the fairings are cable tied on and i don't have a screen.




Anyway, how did it go, for a first attempt i have to say, i'm more than chuffed. These things certainly do fly and it was well worth the effort. I think the brakes need looking at, i'm sure some new pads will sort the problem. I just need to get some ordered.

The engine has a nasty flat spot between 7,000 and 9,000 but then goes like a rocket. Which was definately an experience with the brakes. Unfortunately the fun was short lived, i lost the gear link rod, during my test ride, an oversight of not tightening up the nuts. So i limped home in second gear

So things to do, to complete and be ready for the pending track day

Brake pads,
Screen,
Fairing bolt kit,
Screen bolt kit,
K&N Filter,
Dynojet kit & Dyno time,

ohh and a crash diet to get into my race suit

I know it has been posted a couple of times on the forum, what K&N filter are people using on their bikes?

The k&n from the old genesis 600 almost fits. Managed to make mine fit by not using the rubber they provide. Part no YA-6089.
My next project however is to modify the thundercat air box to utilise a ramair system, similar to the bkd scoop. The main problem using the 3tj airbox is that you cant get enough cold air into the box which causes the flat spot, as was demonstrated to me at the dyno. The flat spot dissapeared when the tank was raised slightly. Filter pods are the easiest solution.

Pod filters work ok, if you go for 180 main jets (big i know but the carbs are sucking the entire atmosphire in) and zxr750 needles you should be almost there That is what i'm running my my race bike and that has a lovely power and torque curve. Pod filters sound good too, but i'm still experimenting making my own airbox from fibreglass and carbon.
