well, i went down to the chap i bought it off, he gave me a gauge to do the compression test so i did one, its blowing at 200 on all cylinders, which is awesome, so i though it may be seriously overfueling, so we were going to put it on the dyno, but before we did we checked the the float needle, but seeing as though you cant adjust the float height, we though they may have raised the needle some how, and you will never gues what i found! omg, some complete spanner put on top of the standard washer, they put two more washers and a bloody spring washer in there!! on all the carbs! a bloody spring washer! i though well that explains it! so ive took the washers out, but left the factory washer in, ive took it for a taz, and the flatspot has dissapeard! pulls like a train right through. :-). i just need to balance the carbs now because number 1 cylinder runs slightly colder than the others on idle, i didnt notice they were out of balance, probably because it was overfueling so much. could this explain my problem do you think? i think it might, slightly, lol.

did you ask the prev owner where the air box came from?
how long did he own the bike before selling it on?
if hes just a bike sales place, then ask him who he bought it from..

the more history you have on a bike the better and it does no harm to find out.
i do hope you did a HPI before you bought it? as that would show it it was fire damaged/insurance job

i bought it from a local bike mechanic, he took in the bike from a regular customer, and was going to fix it up and ride it himself, but i was withought a bike after my suzuki gave up the ghost, and he had one in. were going to put it on the dyno this weekend and set everything up properly :-), im still goin to keep my eye on that airbox though. thank you for all your time, i apreciate it very much. thanks folks :-)

Stick some insulation tape on the deformed part of the airbox it will bubble up if it's still getting hot.

okie dokey, will do!, i can also here a tiny little ticking sound coming from the front end somewhere. my first guess would be wheel bearings, that of head race. whats the best way to check the head race? And these rear shocks, are they gas or fluid, and can the be stiffend up at all? mines a wee bit on the soft side.

check your down pipes for leaks most likely for the ticking noise, get a cbr6 shock in there

if the ticking is irregular... its probably the fuel pump doing its job. they can tick quite loud
the other clinky noise could be the floating brake disks, most the ones i have seen all do it..

Just out of curiosity, i recently fitted modified nc 29 carbs to my nc 23 and now I can hear quite aloud ticking noise coming from the fuel pump. Have i overloaded it somehow? It seems to run fine but the pump runs very loud
